Mughal empire
The Mughal Empi
re, a Muslim dynasty of Turkic-Mongol origin, ruled much of northern India from the early 16th to the mid-18th century. Founded by Babur in 1526,
the empire reached its peak under Akbar, who established a tolerant and inclusive rule. Akbar's grandson, Shah Jahan, is
best known for his magnificent architectural achievements, including
the Taj Mahal. However, the empire began to decline
under Aurangzeb, whose rigid policies alienated many of his subjects. The Mughal Empire eventually disintegrated
in the early 18th century, paving the way for British colonial rule.
